Lodge Officer Duties
The Lodge Officer is responsible for helping the lodge run safely and smoothly during each stay. The role includes overseeing lodge operations, supporting members and guests, and ensuring club procedures are followed.
-
Lodge Officers are appointed by the Booking Officer. Where possible, they may be invited to attend an informal training session covering the responsibilities of the role.

-
Lodge ManagementEnsure everyone staying at the lodge is listed on the booking list. Only those on the booking list are confirmed as booked and paid.
If required, make a booking using the lodge computer.
Contact the Booking Secretary if you have any questions about bookings.
Prepare the following day's duty roster by 8.00pm where possible and display it on the noticeboard.
Ensure duties are completed throughout the weekend in a friendly and supportive manner.
Report any maintenance issues or breakages to the Maintenance Officer.
Safety & SecurityEncourage everyone to use the day lock whenever entering or leaving the lodge.
Ensure the main door closes securely after each use.
Before heading up the mountain, remind the last person leaving to check the door has "snipped" shut.
If the lodge is likely to be empty, ensure the deck door is locked and toilet and bunkroom windows are closed.
Monitor the water tank level. If it falls below 500 mm, begin water rationing, notify a committee member, and check for leaking taps or pipework.
Heating & Drying RoomsEnsure firewood is brought inside regularly so it can dry.
Never leave firewood unattended on top of the fire, as it may ignite.
Assign fire management as a duty if required.
Ensure the downstairs drying room is used whenever more than ten people are staying, or whenever boots and outer clothing are particularly wet.
-
Please help ensure members and guests follow the club rules:
Everyone must use a pillow slip.
Members are responsible for their guests and children.
Members making lunches must bring their own food.
Everyone should clean up after themselves, particularly in the ski workshop.
No smoking anywhere in the lodge.
No food or alcohol is permitted in the bunk rooms.
-
Monitor food usage to minimise waste and ensure evening meals remain varied.
Complete the pantry stocktake on Saturday evening using the online spreadsheet.
Check delivered groceries against the order sheet.
Contact the Food Officer by phone or email if urgent supplies are required.
Refer to the online food list when required.
-
Welcome non-member guests and help them feel at home. You, or their sponsoring member, should explain lodge procedures, duties and expectations.
Many non-member guests become future members, so helping them enjoy their stay is an important part of the Lodge Officer's role.
